Open Access at the U of M

New agreement with IOP Publishing

By January 17, 2023September 16th, 2023No Comments

The Libraries supports open access (OA) publishing because it makes research freely available to readers around the world. There are many ways to make your scholarly work openly accessible (see our page on all of the options available to you!). In addition to these avenues, the Libraries is participating in a number of agreements negotiated through the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) that waive article processing charges (APCs). There is a new option for 2023.

Through an agreement between the BTAA and IOP, articles with a corresponding author from UMN are eligible for a $0 APC in 74 IOP titles. The agreement with IOP allows for original research and review articles to be published OA in all journals that participate in IOP’s transformative agreements, including most of its fully open access and hybrid open access journals.

The agreement covers OA fees. Authors will remain responsible if the journal has page charges and/or color image charges.

See the announcement and frequently asked questions on the BTAA website.
