Bio-Medical Library begins renovation

The Bio-Medical Library moved into Diehl Hall in 1960, and it has been a home for scholarship and learning ever since.  

Starting February 22, the Bio-Medical library will begin a renovation process that will update its public spaces to support new needs related to research, teaching, and learning.

The renovations will enhance the Bio-Medical Library’s role as a connector, linking people, resources, information, and technology to achieve common goals. Through this service-rich environment, the library will be able to promote a culture of scholarship and serve as a creative catalyst, prompting new insights into learning and research.

Productivity

A new productivity area will be added to support specialized needs of researchers, educators, and students. The space will include a computing center with specialized software, along with a data visualization center. The library will also add a 1:Button Studio for video production.  

Collaboration

The library’s collaboration area will have large tables, mobile white boards, and added power for laptops. It will include a mix of lounge and office seating, as well as standing or sitting desktop height options to support a variety of work postures.  

Learning

The learning space will provide a dedicated area for consultations with librarians on topics related to research, systematic reviews, publishing, grant support, and more.

Service desk

The new service desk will be more centrally-located to highlight it as the main service point for library assistance.

Study

The library’s fourth floor will also be updated with areas to support focused study. Features include semi-private spaces for individual work and added power for longer research and writing sessions.
