Requesting Government Information: FOIA for Scholarship and Publication
February 22 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pmFree
This workshop will introduce participants to methods for submitting effective FOIA-based requests for government data and documents. Led by investigative reporter — and experienced FOIA-submitter — Filiberto Nolasco Gomez (Editor of Workday Minnesota/Labor Education Service), this workshop will offer participants a rare hands-on opportunity to learn the nitty gritty skills needed to effectively conduct research using the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act. Filiberto will also help students think about where to publish the information they are pursuing.
About Endangered Data Week and workshop sponsors
Endangered Data Week, an international event sponsored by the Digital Library Federation, is a collaborative effort coordinated across campuses, nonprofits, libraries, citizen science initiatives, and cultural heritage institutions, to shed light on public datasets that are in danger of being deleted, repressed, mishandled, or lost.
This event was organized by the “Library Resources for Transgender Topics” Working Group. These events are co-sponsored by the University Libraries, the Digital Arts, Sciences, & Humanities (DASH) Program, the Tretter Collection in GLBT Studies, Labor Education Service, IPUMS, and Minnesota Public Health Association (MPHA).
