Some Observations on ‘Women’ and ‘Archives’: The View from an LGBTQ Archive
Rachel Mattson, Curator, Tretter Collection
Although at first glance they might appear to be terms with clear definitions and obvious parameters, both “women” and “archives” are actually contested categories whose boundaries have been the subject of a great deal of debate in the past half century. What can we learn about them through the lens of LGBTQ archival histories and practices?
About First Fridays Series 2018-2019
A series of intellectually stimulating talks at Elmer L. Andersen Library
We Are Here: Women in the Archives
With women comprising half the population, their accomplishments and voices are found throughout the archives. Yet do their stories regularly rise to the top? The 2018-2019 Archives and Special Collections First Fridays season will focus on female-identifying stories — the firsts, the unsungs, the leaders, the marginalized, those who found their way to a place at the table and those who may never have managed to get there.
First Fridays is made possible by a generous gift from Governor Elmer L. and Mrs. Eleanor Andersen in honor of former University Librarian Dr. Edward B. Stanford.
