Break and Remake the toaster… Literally!
Join us for a unique opportunity to disassemble a toaster, take stalk of the inner workings, and reimagine the possibilities.
Participants in this two session workshop will work as a team through a guided disassembly and examination of a toaster, engage in a creative session to explore the potential of what can be made of the components and mechanisms that remain, and have one month to bring the idea from concept to reality. Most exciting remake wins $500!
Session One: February 18th, 3-5pm
- Break it! or soundly disassemble the toaster and learn what is behind it then spend time ideating with on and off-campus experts to explore the possibilities of what you can create!
- Remake it! Over the next month, use resources from the Breakerspace, Anderson Labs, and/or the Health Sciences Library Makerspace to reassemble, add ridiculous new features – think bread auto loaders, ballistic toast ejectors, toast branding irons, etc., or create something entirely new.Check out available sessions in between to help build the skills necessary to realize your vision:

Interested teams are invited to produce a 90 second video articulating the impact of their innovation. What makes your reimagined Toaster the best thing since sliced bread? Introduce your new product to an panel of experts and be entered to win cash prizes. Finalists will be selected for a live screening, demo, and Q&A for the 2nd session.New to video production?
