Becoming Greenlanders

Although Greenland appeared to be uninhabited to the Vikings at the time they first set foot on its shores, its earlier history is one of repeated waves of immigration. From the 12th century CE, this pattern of immigration returned. This exhibition looks at what it means to be considered “indigenous,” and where later immigrants fit into this rich history. “Becoming Greenlanders: A Premodern Immigration Story” is open in summer 2022 through Feb. 3, 2023 at Elmer L. Andersen Library, Wallin Center, Bell Room Gallery.
