Gray, Oates, Ohler named new AULs at UMN Libraries

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL (April 19, 2022) — Jody Gray, Evangela Q. Oates, Ph.D., and L. Angie Ohler soon will be joining the University of Minnesota Libraries leadership team as Associate University Librarians (AULs).

Lisa German, University Librarian and Dean of Libraries at the University of Minnesota, made the announcement, saying:  “I’m excited to have this leadership team together as we move forward to Power Curiosity, Discovery, and Connection at the University of Minnesota.”

Jody Gray: AUL for Research

Gray (Cheyenne River Lakota) was named AUL for Research. Since September 2019, she has served as the Director of the Office for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Sciences. For Gray, this marks a return to the UMN Libraries, where she served as Diversity Outreach Librarian from 2005-2015. From 2015 to 2019, Gray served as Director for the Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services for the American Library Association. Gray has a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with an emphasis on American Indian Literature from the University of Minnesota, Morris. She begins her position on May 9th.

Evangela Q. Oates: AUL for Student Success

Evangela Q OatesOates — who currently serves as the Adjunct Librarian at Harold L. Drimmer Library, Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York — was named AUL for Student Success. Oates has a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and Higher Education from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, a Master of Library Science from North Carolina Central University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She begins her new position at Minnesota on June 30.

L. Angie Ohler: AUL for Collections and Content Strategy

Angie OhlerOhler will serve as Associate University Librarian for Collections and Content Strategy. Ohler has more than 17 years of professional library experience and is currently the Associate Dean for Content and Digital Initiatives at University of Arkansas Libraries. She has a Master of Library and Information Science degree from Catholic University of America, a Master of Arts from American University in Anthropology, and a Bachelor of Arts, Anthropology/Sociology, from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. She will join the University of Minnesota on May 31.

“I am very appreciative of our outstanding search committee, and to our library staff who shared in this highly participative process,” German said. “Jody, Evangela, and Angie will be an excellent AUL team and I look forward to our future together at the University of Minnesota Libraries.”
