Insects of Vietnam

Looking Back 50 Years

Atlas mothFifty years ago, John Luhman was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served a tour in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. Entomology professor Alexander Hodson asked him to collect insects while he was there and send them back to the University of Minnesota’s Insect Collection. Luhman caught more than 600 insects.

For the 50th anniversary, we are displaying some of these insects along with memorabilia from his time in Vietnam. The exhibit is a collaboration between the Natural Resources Library and the Insect Museum.

Join us for a weekly Q&A! Every Friday, John Luhman, Ph.D. will be at the library from noon to 2:00 p.m. to answer questions about the exhibit. Luhman is currently a retired research associate in the U of M Department of Entomology.
