TEDMED 2015: Breaking Through

The Bio-Medical Library will be hosting a live viewing of the TEDMED 2015 stage program. The theme of this year’s event is “Breaking Through.”

When: November 19 and 20, 2015
Where: Bio-Medical Library, 2nd Floor (tunnel level); Also broadcast concurrently at the UMD Library, Room 142. 

Free and open to the public. Refreshments served.

TEDMED brings together inspiring speakers, influential delegates, innovative start-ups, and a passionate global audience. Talks will explore neuroscience, public health, pharmacy, genetics, medical ethics, addiction medicine, and cutting-edge science.

Please join us for one or all of the scheduled talks.

Co-sponsored by the University of Minnesota Libraries, the College of Pharmacy Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Society, the School of Nursing and the Kathryn A. Martin Library at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

  • Catalyzing Great Science
    1:00 p.m.  – 2:45 p.m.
    Risk-taking researchers reveal new ways to disrupt the scientific paradigm.
  • Back to Basics
    4:45 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
    Creating a culture of health often depends on factors that reach far beyond health care. Explore solutions with wise and determined change-makers who stand – and fight – at the frontlines of innovation.

Friday, November 20

  • Techno-Utopia
    10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
    Brimming with shiny techno-optimism, this session features novel ways we are creating technologies with wide applications to health and medicine.
  • Who Cares for Health Care?
    1:00 p.m.  – 2:30 p.m.
    Every cure starts with accurate diagnosis, so this series of cautionary tales reveals surprising perspectives and under-appreciated challenges facing our health care system.
  • Out There  
    4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
    Explore our changing environment and so-called fringe science that is going mainstream.
