About the Chicano/Latino collection

The rich collection of library material at the University of Minnesota Libraries documenting the Hispanic heritage of the United States is available to and used by faculty and students in the Department of Chicano/Latino Studies. In addition to books, journals, and audiovisual material, this collection includes digital resources such as the indexes Chicano Database and Informe.

Created in 1972 as Department of Chicano Studies, following student demands, the Department of Chicano/Latino Studies continues to direct the energies of its faculty toward the students, as stated by Assistant Professor Jimmy Patino in the video above. 

Central to the success of the department is a mission intended to cultivate research, teaching, and service to the community. Over the years the Department of Chicano/Latino Studies has produced outstanding leaders in the academic profession and publications by its faculty can be found at the University Libraries.
