Lois Hendrickson

Lois Hendrickson began her work as Curator of the Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine on August 10.  She is an alumna of the University of Minnesota, where she earned her Bachelor’s in History, and the University of Denver where she received her MLS.

Hendrickson has contributed to several university archives throughout her career, working with collections in Denver, Duluth, and here in Minneapolis where she has served as the at the Assistant Curator of the University of Minnesota Archives.

Before her appointment as Curator of the Wangensteen Historical Library, Hendrickson worked as the Assistant Curator, and then Interim Curator of the library.

In addition to her skills in building and managing collections, it is easy to see that Hendrickson is passionate about introducing special collections to students, educators, researchers, and the greater community.

Hendrickson’s passion can be seen every day as she bikes across campus to get wallpaper for an exhibit backdrop, works with graduate students as they develop classes and conduct research, and brings historical artifacts to an interactive stage show at the Minnesota State Fair.

Under her leadership, students have come to know the importance of primary sources, artists have found inspiration, and the collection has been open to a broad audience through annual exhibits.

Her innovative use of technology has opened up the classroom walls and allowed students and scholars to learn from historical resources and artifacts – taking learning well beyond the textbook.

Please join us in welcoming Lois to her new position.
