Periodicals about the Hispanic Heritage of the United States are well represented in the periodicals collection at the University of Minnesota Libraries.
The Libraries has subscriptions to major academic journals of analysis about Hispanics such as Aztlan and Chicana/Latina Studies.
Published since 1970, Aztlan is now one of the most important journals of analysis in Chicano/Latino Studies. Print editions of these journals are housed in the basement level of Wilson Library. But most of them are accessible in digital editions through the Libraries Catalog, in the University Libraries Web Page.
Doing historical research requires access to historical periodicals, particularly newspapers, because they recorded current events from the perspective of the past.
At the University of Minnesota Libraries we have a very good historical collection of Hispanic newspapers published in the United States since 1855. This is a collection in microfilm, called the Chicano Serials Collection, because it began with the collection of historical newspapers at the Chicano Studies Center of the University of California at Berkeley.
The whole collection was cataloged under one call number, Mfilm 3859, but it contains hundreds of titles. Researchers interested in using this collection should consult its index at the Wilson Library Reference Collection under call number Quarto E184 .M5 I54 2007.
