It has been a busy Spring for the Kirschner Collection!
At the beginning of May, we co-hosted a talk by one of my all-time favorite cookbook cookbook authors, Deborah Madison, as part of the Friends of the Libraries’ Annual Celebration. Deborah was incredibly generous with her time while she was here and joined me for a visit to Cornercopia, our campus organic farm, and also spoke and shared a meal with an undergraduate cooking course. In her talk, she discussed the importance of cookbook collections and referenced several particular items of interest she found in the Kirschner Collection during her visit. Following this event, the Kirschner Collection was featured on Hot Dish, the City Pages food blog. I hope all of this results in a summer full of new visitors to the collection.
Speaking of which, it’s a great time to visit. We just got in our new crop of James Beard award-winning cookbooks and we’ve also acquired some older items like this Pillsbury cookbook from 1914:
