Support growing for the MN Electronic Health Library

By February 11, 2015September 16th, 2023No Comments

Many of our state’s health providers, health professions educators, and librarians have come together to support the Minnesota Electronic Health Library (MeHL) and its goal of providing 24/7 access to evidence-based health information and the latest medical research for ALL Minnesotans.

Dr. Jon Hallberg supports MeHL

“There are hundreds — and frankly thousands — of providers across the state who don’t have that kind of access [to evidence-based health information],” Hallberg said. “It creates a certain level of disparity, and to have this available to all is a very democratizing thing to do. It’s the right thing to do. I think we are trying to deliver care appropriately across communities, both urban and rural. This sort of information should be there. It’s already there, but not all of us have access to it.”

Nursing educator Faye Uppman supports MeHL

Faye Uppman is the Project Director for the Minnesota Alliance for Nursing Education. She works with seven community colleges and a university to educate our state’s future nursing workforce.

“We have students in both rural and in our urban setting. Even though we are an alliance, there is not equal access to resources within the library for all those students,” she said. “Having the Minnesota Electronic Health Library available to those students would give them the same ability to access information to guide their learning and to guide their eventual practice.”

U of M Dentistry Dean Leon Assael supports MeHL

Dean Leon Assael shares the perspective of dentists who often times have limited interaction with their colleagues.

He said: “The opportunity for dentists who are basically siloed in their offices… to interact with the highest level of scientific evidence in the care of their patients is what’s really exciting about this program.”

Library Director Janice Jaguszewski supports MeHL

As the Director of the University of Minnesota’s Health Sciences Libraries, she emphasizes that, “We are seeking funding from the legislature because we think that the Minnesota Electronic Health Library would be a great benefit for the entire state.  We believe in equal access to high quality health information for everyone.”
